Moving Tips

1. When Should I call a moving company?
It’s best to give your moving company between four to six week’s notice, if possible. The more lead time you can give, the more likely we will be able to meet your preferred delivery schedule.  We will do our best to comply with the dates you prefer or the nearest possible alternatives.  If you need specific dates due to factors such as lease expiration or a real estate closing, you should discuss your specific pickup and delivery requirements with your Move Consultant, who can advise you regarding the types and costs of services available.

2. What happens on my move if the truck cannot access my house/apartment?
A shuttle service is required whenever your residence is not accessible for your large truck usually a tractor trailer.  During your survey, the estimator will identify whether or not a shuttle will be required.  Shuttle service is an additional charge and is determined by the weight and distance of the shuttle.

3. Why don't you provide a online estimate?
When you entrust your belongings to someone it is a good idea to get to know the person and company involved. You receive the best value when you take advantage of your Move Consultant’s knowledge in planning your move and answering your questions face-to-face.   During your in-home move consultation, we will discuss and provide you information about your rights as a consumer, liability protection, auto shipping, and how to prepare for each stage of your move.

4. I hear that setting up my move online is a bad thing.  Is that true?
Rogue movers have given the moving industry a poor reputation and have taken the spotlight from the reputable companies like KC Salley Relocation.  Rogue movers will send you online quotes, broker your move, ask for deposits, and hold your belongings ransom.  If you are a victim of a rogue mover, please visit moverescue.com.  This site is sponsored by the legal department of United Van Lines.

5. What will happen if my belongings need to be stored?
If you are unable to move into your home at the time your belongings are scheduled to be delivered, KC Salley Relocation can safely store the goods in one of our facilities or with another United Van Lines Agent. KC Salley Relocation has a 100% climate controlled warehouse.

6. When Should I call a moving company?

We can provide both non-binding quotes and binding quotes.  Non-binding quotes require you to pay based on the actual weight of your shipment and the services provided by your moving crew.

The most common quote used is the binding quote which is a fixed price bid that will not be exceeded unless additional services are ordered and performed that are not listed on your shipping list or inventory.  Make sure that your Move Consultant has included all of the items you intend on shipping.
